The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round
(Delaware County, OH) August 12, 2013 – Those big yellow school buses will be out in full force in just days throughout Delaware County, so drivers take notice and drive carefully. It’s back-to-school season and there will be more traffic in and around school zones. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office reminds all drivers to pay extra attention to not only buses, but school speed zones and children in crosswalks.
“We’ll be increasing the visibility of our patrols throughout the county and near school zones to help ensure pedestrian and student safety,” says Delaware County Sheriff Russ Martin. The increased patrols are made possible through a grant from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. This grant pays for overtime costs associated with the increased patrols.
Many school children walk or ride bikes to school. Drivers are urged to used extra caution and be on the lookout for this increased foot traffic. Parents are asked to remind their children about safety rules for walking, bicycling or riding in a school bus.
Wednesday, August 14 is the first day of school for Delaware City Schools, Olentangy Local Schools, and Westerville City Schools; and Thursday, August 15 is Buckeye Valley Local Schools’ first day.
